Heartworm Prevention

Heartworm disease is caused by a parasitic worm that is transmitted by mosquitoes.  If untreated, it can result in severe lung disease, heart failure and death in both dogs and cats.  Prevention is simple and effective with the monthly administration of a chewable, flavored medication for dogs or a monthly topical medication for cats.   For our canine patients who dislike taking oral medicine, there is also the option of a yearly injectable, extended-release heart worm preventative. 
Our doctors will make product recommendations for your pet based on their individual needs.

Puppy and Kitten Examinations

Puppies and kittens have medical needs that can differ from adult dogs and cats.  Some of those concerns include:

Annual Examinations

Yearly exams are more than a simple check-up.  The annual exam is a crucial part of your pet’s health, which allows us to recognize minor and sometimes major problems in your pet before they become severe.  During the annual exam we:
  • ask questions about their medical history that gives us important information about possible diseases. 
  • listen to their heart and lungs, palpate their lymph nodes and internal organs and look at their eyes, ears, teeth, and skin to assess their overall health condition. 
  • ​tailor the vaccinations and diagnostic and health recommendations to your pet’s individual needs.
